Basement and Crawl Space Excavation, explained.
A basement excavation is among the biggest holes a residential contractor asks for. It needs accurate depth, square corners, safe slopes or shoring, a haul route for a large amount of soil and a plan for rain, because a muddy basement pit delays everything behind it.
We dig the pit to the plan with room for forms and drainage, build ramps for access, haul or stockpile the spoil and keep surface water out of the hole. For existing homes, we also lower or expand crawl spaces to create more headroom or a new basement level, working carefully around footings.
Signs this service fits
- A new house plan includes a basement
- A crawl space needs more headroom
- A walkout or lower level is being added
- A builder needs the pit ready for footing crews
A good fit, and what to know.

Why do it this way.
Accurate depth
Elevations are checked at the bottom and the footings.
Safe sides
Slopes or shoring protect crews working below grade.
Haul-off handled
Large volumes of soil are moved without clogging the site.
Water controlled
Diversion and sump points reduce standing water.
From first look to finished ground.
A clear sequence for every job.

How long does a basement dig take?
Often a day or a few days, depending on size, soil, rock and weather. We give a window once we have seen the site and the plan.
What if we hit rock?
Shallow limestone is common in parts of Middle Tennessee. We assess it early and discuss hammering, blasting by a specialist or shifting the plan.
Where does all the soil go?
Some stays for backfill and grading, and the rest is hauled away or placed on another part of the lot, as you prefer.
