The service

Force Main and Lift Station Excavation, explained.

Some sites sit lower than the sewer they need to reach. A lift station collects wastewater in a wet well and pumps it through a pressurized force main to a higher point where gravity can take over. Building one starts with a deep, well-supported excavation and ends with pipe that must hold pressure for years.

We dig the pit for the wet well or vault, support the walls as the depth demands, set the structure on a prepared base, and install the force main and its fittings to the plan. Pumps, controls and electrical work are completed by the system’s designer and specialty trades.

Signs this service fits

  • A development or building is lower than the sewer
  • A private pump station is part of the site plan
  • An aging pump station vault must be replaced
  • A pressure line must cross a low area
Is it right for your project?

A good fit, and what to know.

We would rather you hear the limits from us than discover them later.

A good fit when

  • An engineer has designed the station and force main
  • The site can be accessed by an excavator and a crane or loader
  • You need excavation and structure setting handled together

Worth knowing

  • Groundwater and rock can increase time and effort
  • Design approvals and utility acceptance control the schedule
What you get

Why do it this way.

Safe deep digging

Shoring or sloping is planned for the depth and soil.

Dry work area

Dewatering keeps the base stable during setting.

Pressure-rated pipe

Pipe and joints are installed for pressure, not just gravity flow.

Coordinated trades

Excavation is sequenced with the pump, control and electrical crews.

How it runs

From first look to finished ground.

A clear sequence for every job.

  1. 01

    Plan the pit

Depth, soil, groundwater and access are reviewed and a safe excavation method is chosen.

  2. 02

    Excavate and support

The pit is dug with sloping or shoring and dewatering where needed.

  3. 03

    Set structures

The wet well or vault is set on a prepared base and sealed to the pipe stubs.

  4. 04

    Lay the force main

Pressure pipe is installed with restrained joints, then tested, backfilled and restored.

Questions

Force Mains & Lift Stations FAQ.

Do you supply the pumps?

No. Pump selection, controls and wiring are done by the designer and specialty contractors. We provide the excavation, structure setting and pipe installation.

Is a force main laid to grade like a sewer?

Not in the same way, because it runs under pressure. It still needs a planned alignment, air relief points and restrained joints, and we install to the design.

How long does a lift station take?

It depends on depth, soil, groundwater and the schedule of other trades. We plan the sequence with you once the design is known.
