Water Line Leak Repair, explained.
Underground water leaks often show up as a high water bill, a soggy patch of lawn, reduced pressure or the sound of running water when everything is off. Because the pipe is buried, the first job is to locate the leak and the line before digging, so the hole is in the right place.
We trace the line, confirm the leak area and excavate carefully to expose the pipe. Depending on what we find, we repair the break with a clamp or coupling, replace a failed section or recommend replacing the whole run. The water to the property is shut off during the repair and restored when the line is checked.
Signs this service fits
- A water bill suddenly jumps with no change in use
- A wet or soft patch appears over the water line
- Water pressure drops
- You hear water running when nothing is on
A good fit, and what to know.
We would rather you hear the limits from us than discover them later.
A good fit when
- There is evidence of a leak on the property side of the meter
- You want the pit dug once and done correctly
- You may want to replace an old line while it is exposed
Worth knowing
- A leak on the utility side of the meter is the utility’s to fix
- Leaks can be hard to pinpoint, and the first pit may not be the last
Why do it this way.

How can I tell if I have a leak underground?
Check whether the water meter keeps moving with everything off, and look for wet ground along the line. A plumber or leak locator can narrow it down.
Should I replace the line or repair the leak?
A single break in newer pipe is often a repair. Old galvanized or repeatedly leaking pipe is usually better replaced.
Who owns the water line?
The utility typically owns the line up to the meter, and the property owner owns the line beyond it. Check your utility’s rules.
